Evan Gintonis
When I was growing up, I would always sympathize with those living with diseases or conditions that made certain tasks in their everyday life harder to accomplish. Through combining my childhood experience with my creative drive, I had found my passion: to improve the lives of others through innovation in healthcare, and I am determined to do that.

My passion and determination are why I am studying Biomedical and Electrical Engineering at McMaster University. In McMaster's Biomedical Engineering program, students start designing medical devices such as wearables, implants, and prosthetics from day one while interacting with real-life clients! Students can also choose an engineering stream to specialize in on top of the base biomedical curriculum, thereby creating undergraduates with diverse skillsets and specializations.

I am grateful to be a part of one of McMaster's top programs while having the opportunity to work on such compelling projects, which can be seen on this site.

The Smart Sipper
Hydration & Electrolyte Tracking Water Bottle
Feb 2019 - Apr 2019
Interviewed a real-life client with epilepsy. Designed a solution to help prevent small seizures. Gained experience in talking to customers and the kinds of questions to ask them when developing an engineering solution.
The Physioflex
Physiotherapeutic Muscle Treatment Device
Jan 2019 - Feb 2019
Designed a wearable device to motivate users with partial muscle paralysis to perform physiotherapeutic exercises on their own using engaging games. Demonstrated creativity in engineering design. Improved Python and circuit-building skills.

PerfHIP Fit
Custom Hip Implant for Bone Deformity
Nov 2018 - Dec 2018
Modelled and 3D-printed a hip implant using Autodesk Inventor to fit a patient's bone deformity. Coded a Python program to test the durability of the implant. Supervised and taught team members on how to properly model and code. Recognized as a capable leader by teammates.
The Link 'N Go
A Solution to Help Secure Ostomy Bags During Exercise
Sept 2018 - Oct 2018
Applied the engineering design process to create a Velcro system that provides additional security to ostomy bags during exercise. Gained experience in working with real-life biomedical engineering scenarios. Improved teamwork and communication skills.

Wrist Prosthesis
McMaster Biomedical Engineering Introductory Project
Sept 2018
Designed and built a low-fidelity wrist prosthesis in one hour to alleviate carpal tunnel syndrome. A small variety of household materials were only permitted to use. Demonstrated creative on-the-spot thinking.
